有很多看過以下這段證言的朋友都會引用他來證明聖靈就是第三位神. 現在讓我們先看看這段證言的內容.
"基督為高舉自己的子民, 祂所能向父祈求的一切福份中最大的恩賜乃是聖靈. 上帝賜下聖靈來, 作為使人重生的能力. 若沒有聖靈, 則基督的犧牲便要歸於徒然. 歷代以來, 罪惡的勢力日益膨脹, 世人服在撒但束縛之下的情形實是令人驚異. 人惟有倚靠三一真神第三位的大能大力, 才能抵擋罪惡並得勝罪惡. 聖靈下降, 必帶著無限的力量和充足的神能....." (歷代願望 671.2)

The Spirit was to be given as a regenerating agent, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail. The power of evil had been strengthening for centuries, and the submission of men to this satanic captivity was amazing. Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power......." (DA 671.2)
從以上的證言來看, 聖靈看似就是"三位一體"中的第三位神....但事實上並不是這樣.
"Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead". 首先, 我們要弄清楚這句子當中最關鍵的這兩個詞"the Third Person" & "Godhead"指的是什麼. 請看如下:
1) 現今, 人們經常把"Godhead"一詞理解成由父, 子, 聖靈三位組成的一位真神. 但根據聖經, "Godhead"的意思是神性(Divinity). 全本聖經中只出現過三次, 三次全部都解作為"神性"而不是由父, 子, 聖靈三位組成的一位真神.
a) "我們既是神所生的, 就不當以為神的神性像人用手藝, 心思, 所雕刻的金, 銀, 石." (使徒行傳 17:29) "Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device." (Acts 17:29)
b) "自從造天地以來, 神的永能和神性是明明可知的, 雖是眼不能見, 但藉著所造之物, 就可以曉得, 叫人無可推諉."(羅馬書 1:20)
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Roman 1:20)
c) "因為神本性一切的豐盛, 都有形有體的居住在基督裡面."(歌羅西書 2:9)"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colo 2:9)
2) 當我們閱讀到"the Third Person"時, 看見使用大楷"T" & "P"來意圖加強表達聖靈就像天父和耶穌一樣, 是一位人(as a literal person), 一位神(a Divine Being)! 但是, 早期的版本(包括初本發行於1898)並不是用大楷"T" & "P"而是用小楷 "t" & "p". 見如下!
那就意味著聖靈並不一定像天父和耶穌實實在在是一位人, 一位神! 另外, "the third person"亦可理解為: 第三人稱/第三身.
那麼, 誰才是這"神聖的第三位"/"神聖的第三人稱/第三身"呢(the third person of the Godhead)? 這位第三人稱/第三身的"他"所指的究竟是誰呢? 讓我們繼續往下看, 從証言本身中找出答案!
